New for 2008
Now, for outdoor wildplace fanatics you can visit the Islands of Ulva and Staffa as a day tour from Oban.
Ulva, described as "a world apart” and “enigmatic" is the ultimate walker’s paradise, large enough to get lost in, with few of the trappings of the modern jungle. The most traffic you might meet; - an eighty-year-old on a quad bike (might be the owner!) or perhaps the odd cow or stag. Ulva is tranquil woodland walks, wild untamed scenery and a totally unspoiled atmosphere which will ensnare and enchant.
"Many visitors have been fortunate enough to see otters, red deer, common and
Atlantic seals and many of the 123 bird species listed in The Visitors Guide to Ulva".
Indulge in a delicious lunch in the recently rejuvenated Boathouse Tearoom serving quality locally produced and/or caught foods such as exquisite fresh prawns, lobster and Mull-farmed oysters or mussels.
Visit Sheila’s cottage, a faithful reconstruction of a traditional thatched croft house last inhabited around 1930. Here, you can view a display depicting the fascinating history of Ulva from Mesolithic man to the present day.
The one minute crossing back to Mull at 14.00 takes you to board the Turus Mara vessel for the trip (under 1 hour) to Staffa. At least one hour ashore gives time to walk inside Fingal’s Cave and explore much of the island before returning to Ulva Ferry for the scenic journey through Mull back to Craignure and the return ferry to Oban.
