2021 Islander Rates
With social distancing finally being relaxed, Turus Mara once again invite Residents of Mull and Iona to take full advantage of a hefty 20% discount on all of our 2021 trips to visit the awe inspiring Fingal’s Cave on Staffa and the wildlife on and around the Treshnish Isles. So, whether you are regular with us experiencing Staffa’s Magic, an occasional visitor to Mull’s unique West Coast archipelago, or haven’t yet experienced what lies on your maritime doorstep – be sure to pay us a visit this summer.
Everyone is keen to take time to marvel at the unique geology of Staffa and in particular to experience the majesty of ‘cathedral like’ Fingal’s Cave. You should though also head up on top and take in the views from the ‘trig point’ down to Iona, out to Coll, Tiree and the Treshnish Isles back to Ben More, Ulva and Gometra.
Until a few years ago the history of Staffa was thought to be relatively modern, but recently archaeologists working with the National Trust for Scotland who own the island have found artefacts dating back over three and a half thousand years. This of course means that it may well be that Staffa has been inhabited back as far as Neolithic times. This work is ongoing and it is to be hoped further investigation will shed more light on these fascinating discoveries.
Join us on our wildlife tour to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. Although by August most of the birdlife has finished breeding and the puffins have departed for their mysterious life offshore there is still lots to experience. Gannets, shearwaters, guillemots, fulmars, shags and many other species are present around the coast and offshore in numbers. There is always the chance of an encounter with cetaceans such as common and bottlenose dolphins, minke whales and the little porpoises that inhabit the waters of the inner Hebrides. Into September and Atlantic Grey Seal pups begin to appear on the Treshnish Isles (over 1200 are born each year).
We see both resident species of seals on our trips – generally common seals inshore and Atlantic Grey Seals out in the Treshnish Isles.
