TURUS MARA TRIPS
Turus Mara
response to Bird Flu

* Update Nov 2022*

Season 2023 – no bird flu restrictions are currently scheduled. We will keep Naturescot advice under review.

Treshnish Isles Landings suspended from Monday 18th of July for the remainder of the 2022 seabird breeding season due to the threat of Bird Flu.

Following advice from Scotland’s Nature Agency, Naturescot, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend all landings on the Treshnish Isles for the remainder of the 2022 seabird breeding season from the 18th of July.

This is in order to play our part in helping limit the spread and effect of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza(HPAI), a devastating disease in birds that has been identified increasingly near our area.

Turus Mara remain committed to delivering the best Seabird and Wildlife Cruise-tours and visitors will still be able to enjoy the Treshnish Isles ‘summer seabird spectacle’ from our boats without landing. This also allows time for a more flexible approach to viewing other parts of the stunning Loch Na Keal National Scenic Area through which all our trips run.

In order to fit with these unfortunate new circumstances the following will apply:

All Big Bird, Early Morning Special and Photo Specials are cancelled from Monday 18th July 2022.

All those booked for the Big Bird/ Early Morning Special can transfer to any 11.40am Staffa and Treshnish Isles trip.

Staffa and Treshnish Isles 11.40am trip will spend time in and around Ulva, Gometra, Little Colonsay and will land at Staffa for up to 1 hour 30mins (weather and swell permitting). We will spend more time viewing the birdlife and seals on an extended cruise through and around the Treshnish Isles. This trip will now return to Ulva Ferry at c. 5pm. Reflecting these changes this trip will be charged at a reduced rate of £60 per adult and £30 per child.

Those already booked and affected by the above changes can receive a full refund, move to another trip (with corresponding partial refund if applicable) or postpone until next year.

This is an extremely challenging and disappointing situation for all and we really appreciate your patience and understanding while we rearrange things as best we can.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
